FAQs
Is Source-Connect the only option?
No - you can use any of the services available. If you have a subscription to iPDTL, SessionLinkPro, Cleanfeed or Source-Connect Now, then please send me an invitation link before the session. Be aware though, that all of these services are the same, all using the Opus Codec in Google Chrome, and all suffer from glitches that can make sessions difficult.
Can I use WiFi?
NO. You really need an ethernet cable connecting your router to your computer. You can buy 50 meter ones which you can drape though your home if you have to, but I've never had a completely successful session using WiFi.
Can I test my set-up before the session by myself?
Yes - in the contacts window on Source-Connect, you'll see ECHOTEST options. This is a loopback test - connect to any of the echo-tests, and talk into your mic when you're connected. If you hear your voice repeated in your headphones, you're ready to go. If you don't, make sure that you have your inputs and outputs connected properly in the Audio Options of Source-Connect.
What settings do I choose in Source-Connect?
Please choose 48K, mono, medium buffer. A very useful resource is George the Tech, whose video can be found by clicking HERE. The link will take you to the relevant point in the video, but the video is full of useful information.

No - your VO can use any of the services available. What do I tell my VO?
Once the booking is confirmed, I'l contact the VO and give them my Source-Connect ID. I'll send an info sheet to them with everything they need. Sessions work better when they're not back to back, so I leave 30 minutes between each session, where you, I and the VO can make sure that we're absolutely prepared - checking the VO's connection, converting and importing videos and connecting to clients so that we're ready to go on time. The 30 minute buffer also means that if a session needs to overrun then we have some flexibility.
What do I tell my client?
Once the booking is confirmed I'll contact the client with a link to a Zoom meeting, plus an info sheet with info they need.
Anything else?
A half-hour gap between my sessions gives us time for prep and possible overrun - please let the client and the VO know this. I'll contact the VO before the session to make sure everything works as it should.
